Waterloopbos
The Event

In the Waterloopbos there are scale models of about 30 waterworks from home and abroad. Nature monuments climbed several expired models that were overcrowded.During this CITO event we will work in collaboration with NatuurMonumenten in this particular piece of forest.
Het Waterloopbos
As a part of the Voorsterbos, the Waterloopbos was built in 1944. The Waterfalls Laboratory in Delft has been working on scale models of waterworks since 1927. After the Second World War, they sought a location to build larger models. Due to the space and shelter, this part of the Voorsterbos was ideal.
The Waterloo Forest was used for both domestic and foreign projects since 1954. For example, there are scale models of the ports of IJmuiden, Vlissingen and Rotterdam, but also of Marsa-el-Bregha (Libya), Bangkok (Thailand), Lagos (Nigeria) and Beirut (Lebanon). In the 1950s and 60’s, many models of the Delta Works were built.
The models in the woods became unnecessary when the computer entered and became overgrown. Since 2002, Nature Monuments have owned the site. They snatched some models and removed vegetation. In 2016, Waterloopbos received the status of Rijksmonument.
There is a visitor center from which various walks along the scale models begin.
